Campaigners from Scotland who are fighting for the rights of mesothelioma victims and their families are due to present evidence to back their case to members of Scottish Parliament in a bid to try and amend a bill that could currently see mesothelioma victims having to make a very difficult choice.
At present nearly two thousand people each year die in the UK from asbestos related disease resulting from exposure to this deadly substance. Asbestos was once widely used in many countries all over the world, and is a known carcinogenic that can cause many health problems through exposure.
The victims of this type of disease often have to decide whether to sue for damages while they are still alive, or whether to wait until they die so that their loved ones can claim, which in some instances means that more can be claimed.
The campaigners want to amend this so that under the Rights of Relatives to Damages Bill the families of victims of mesothelioma, which is asbestos related cancer, would still be able to make a claim following the death of their loved one, regardless of whether the victim had already claimed while alive.
