A woman from the UK has launched a battle to claim damages by way of compensation for the death of her mother, claiming that her mother died as the result of exposure to asbestos through washing her husband’s contaminated overalls. Seventy-seven year old Alice Watt died from mesothelioma, which is an asbestos related cancer.
It is claimed that Mrs. Watt used to regularly wash the overalls that her husband wore to work, when he worked as a shipbuilder. Reports state that Mrs. Watt used to shake out her husband’s overalls prior to washing them, which is how she would have become exposed to the deadly dust and fibers.
Her daughter is now filing a lawsuit against the former employers of her father, where the asbestos contamination would have originated from. She is suing Appledore Shipbuilders in Dorset for 100,000 GBP in compensation.
The lawsuit makes a number of allegations, including that the employer failed to follow expert advice with regards to the dangers of asbestos, thus allowing the clothes of employees to become contaminated with asbestos dust, which was then transported to their homes.
