ACS Creates Question List For Mesothelioma Patients

Following the increasing number of mesothelioma diagnoses in the Unites States over the past few years, the American Cancer Society has now drafted a list of suggested questions for newly diagnosed patients to ask their doctors.

Being diagnosed with mesothelioma can hit a patient like a bolt from the blue, leaving them pretty much speechless.

However, these questions need to be asked, and the American Cancer Society hopes to make things a little easier on newly diagnosed sufferers through the provision of this list.

The questions suggested by the American Cancer Society are:

  • What type of mesothelioma do I have?
  • What are the stages of mesothelioma?
  • Has the mesothelioma spread beyond its original site?
  • What treatment options do I have?
  • What is my prognosis?
  • What risks or side effects are there to the treatments for mesothelioma?
  • What are the chances that my cancer will recur with these mesothelioma treatment plans?
  • What should I do to be ready for mesothelioma treatment?

It is hoped that getting answers to these questions as soon as possible will help new patients to be better prepared for what is involved in the treatment and care procedure, as well as helping them to come to terms with the disease.

These questions will also enable family members to learn more about the treatment and care process, and learn more about the disease in general.
