The family of a man that died as the result of asbestos exposure has been handed down an award of nearly $4 million in a case at the Los Angeles Superior Court. The company that was being sued for the wrongful death of the man was the Stanford based Crane Co.
Joseph Henson Norris, who was a US Navy veteran, passed away earlier this year from mesothelioma, an asbestos related cancer. This cancer results from exposure to asbestos fibers and dust.
A lawyer representing the widow and children stated: "Chris, John and our entire trial team worked hard to show this jury exactly how the defendants could have prevented this terrible tragedy. The jurors understood this case and their verdict reflects just that."
Mr. Norris worked as a gunner’s mate in the US Navy between 1955 and 1957. Parts that were manufactured by Crane Co, which were asbestos based, were used aboard the ship on which Mr. Norris was working. The lawsuit alleged that the company continued to use and distribute asbestos products despite knowing the dangers and without the necessary research.
