Over fifty companies are being named in a lawsuit filed in West Virginia by a couple from Kentucky, after the husband contracted lung cancer, which he claims resulted from exposure to asbestos. The lawsuit has been filed by Roger and Sally Broughton, and was filed in Kanawha Circuit Court in mid-August.
Mr. Broughton claims that his lung cancer is the result of being exposed to asbestos dust and fibers during the course of his work. He worked as a locomotive repairman between 1958 and 1997. The lawsuit states that as a result of his asbestos related disease Mr. Broughton has lost enjoyment for life, and has suffered embarrassment, inconvenience, pain, suffering, and financial expenses.
Mrs. Broughton claims that as a result of the asbestos related cancer she has lost the support, services, and financial input of her husband. He is now trying to claim punitive and compensation damages from the defendants.
Asbestos is a substance that has been widely used in a number of different industries because of its cost effectiveness, versatility, and health resistance, but it has become widely known now that exposure to asbestos dust and fibers can cause cancer as well as other health problems.
