Following the discovery of dumped asbestos, State officials in Warren County have issued two notices. The asbestos was found at a landfill in Warren County and was confirmed as having come from the old Alvaton Elementary School building, which was demolished recently.
Kentucky’s Division of Waste Management issued a statement earlier that confirmed the notices has been issued. One notice was issued to Bluegrass Environmental of Hopkinsville, and another notice was also issued to Contractor Waste Services of Oakland.
The contractor and the waste hauler have been accused by environmental officials of open dumping and of illegal distribution of solid waste at a site where this is not permitted. The Division of Enforcement will now be dealing with the case.
Asbestos is a substance that can cause a range of health problems, many of which can be very serious, and one of which is a deadly form of cancer known as mesothelioma.
