According to a recent report asbestos removal at a city hall may be incomplete even after contractors have spent most of the summer trying to get the work done. The asbestos removal was being carried out at the Waukesha City Hall after it was found to be present in the ceilings of the building.
According to recent testing there is still asbestos present, however, which poses a problem for those looking to move back into chambers in the city hall. One official stated: "We’ve taken more samples for testing. We’re continuing to work with the DNR as the investigation continues."
New, energy efficient lighting was to be fitted in the chambers at the city hall, which was why the asbestos in the ceiling had to be removed. Officials will now have to wait for further testing to be carried out and wait until the ‘ok’ is given by environmental officials before moving back into the building.
Asbestos can lead to a number of serious health problems through exposure, including scarring of the lungs, respiratory problems, and a form of cancer known as mesothelioma.
