A theater in the United Kingdom was forced to close after deadly asbestos was discovered in the building. Asbestos is a substance that was used in many building applications, including tiles, piping, and insulation, up until the 1980s. It can cause a range of serious health problems through exposure, including a deadly form of cancer.
The theater had to be closed at short notice after the asbestos scare came to light earlier in the week. The Wyvern Theatre was informed that the main auditorium would have to be closed by Swindon Borough Council officials on Friday evening.
The asbestos came to light during a routine inspection according to officials. Asbestos material was found in the theater during the inspection.
One official stated: "Naturally, it requires immediate removal. Therefore we are unable to hold live performances for a minimum of three weeks."
