An asbestos worker who was selected to work on the traumatic task of searching for bone fragments at the New York Deutsche Bank building in 2006 has told reporters that she quit her job after her boss “told her off” for wearing a protective mask to protect herself from exposure to asbestos dust and fibers at the site.
She was part of a team that was searching for bone fragments in the gravel on the roof of the building, which was affected following the New York terrorist attacks in September 2001. Apparently the team was told that the roof had been cleared from asbestos and therefore normal clothing would be fine. However, clouds of debris following the terrorist attacks had resulted in the whole area being affected by asbestos.
The fifty-seven year-old asbestos worker stated: "They told us they got rid of the asbestos, but as I'm digging, I'm thinking, 'How did they magically get rid of the asbestos, but still leave all this healthy dirt behind?'"
She stated that when she put the mask on her boss told her to take it off because she was spooking everyone. She refused to do that, and was then called a loudmouth and a trouble maker by her boss, according to her allegations.
