A Pacific Grove company has been fined over $100,000 after being charged with asbestos violations at a Seaside job site. The company was fined a total of $110,000 for the violation, and this occurred after a citizen reported the violation and mishandling of asbestos to authorities.
Civil charges were filed against the company, DMC Construction Inc, by the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office. This came after the citizen filed a complaint with regards to the asbestos violation with the Monterey Bay Unified Air Pollution Control District.
The violation is said to have taken place at Fremont Boulevard in Seaside, and the company allegedly failed to notify authorities about the disturbance of asbestos at the job site there. It is further alleged that the company then illegally disposed of the asbestos at a landfill in Marina.
Workers from the construction company began work at the site at the beginning of July 2005, when they were removing floor and ceiling tiles as part of renovation works at the site.
