A man has filed a lawsuit against seventy-five defendants after being diagnosed with the asbestos related cancer, mesothelioma. The man filed his lawsuit in Madison County Circuit Court last week, even though he lives close to eight hundred miles away in Florida. He claims that the seventy-five defendants are all responsible in some way for his asbestos related illness.
Arlie Harrison was diagnosed with the asbestos related cancer in March of this year according to reports, and states that over the past half a century he has been employed in various high risk roles, including a mechanic, a laborer, and a truck driver. He further claims that the defendants should have known about the risks and therefore taken appropriate precautionary action.
The complaint filed by Arlie Harrison stated: "The plaintiff's exposure and inhalation, ingestion or absorption of the asbestos fibers was completely foreseeable and could or should have been anticipated by the defendants."
The complaint also states: "In addition to compensatory damages, an award of punitive damages is appropriate and necessary in order to punish the defendants for willful, wanton, intentional and reckless misconduct and to deter them and others from engaging in like misconduct in the future."
