Following asbestos related violations that occurred last year, two corporations have reached a settlement with authorities. The companies, a contractor, ET Abatement Inc. and a housing developer, Mercy Services Corp, reached the settlement with the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District.
The civil penalty of nearly seventeen and a half thousand dollars was for violations that occurred in 2005 at a property on Elder Creek Road. Violations that were cited included failure to maintain negative air, failure to adequately wet regulated asbestos containing materials during the removal, failure to post signs, failure to prevent visible emissions and failure to maintain containment.
The voluntary mutual settlement program in place in the district was used to reach the settlement. This program was set up so that such violations could be settled without the need to go through the courts.
Officials confirmed that all the previous areas that were under violation were in order at the time of the settlement, and that the funding from the settlement would go towards the improvement of air quality.
