A woman has filed a lawsuit in Madison County after claiming that she suffered secondary exposure to the potentially deadly carcinogenic asbestos from the clothing of family members. The woman, who has been diagnosed with the asbestos related cancer mesothelioma, has named nearly one hundred defendants in her lawsuit.
The plaintiff, Tammy Schwarz, states in her lawsuit that her former husband performed maintenance work on family vehicles, and because he worked on parts that contained asbestos she was also exposed to the deadly substance. She also claims that her current husband worked as a self employed pipe fitter and electrician, and that she was also exposed to asbestos dust and fibers from his clothing.
The plaintiff further claims that between 1954 and 1995 her father worked as a machine operator, and she was also exposed to asbestos from his clothing. According to lawsuit the family members all worked around or with asbestos or asbestos containing products.
According to the complaint: "Dust created by working with and around asbestos and asbestos-containing products would permeate the person and clothing of the plaintiff's family members. This dust contained asbestos fiber."
