The health and maybe even the lives of residents and workers in Melbourne, Australia, are being put at risk due to the contamination of a power station. The power station in question is on Spencer Street, and it is said to be rife with asbestos contamination.
Environmental groups are already expressing concerns about the issue, and one official stated: "Residents living around the site may have a potential for asbestos exposure to occur due to the unbound and friable nature of the asbestos". The power station has also been described as: "One of the most contaminated and hazardous sites in Melbourne".
Further concerns stem over the underground structure that connects the area with the Yarra River, and many fear that this could result in the contamination of water. An environmental report has already made suggestions about the site, stating: "In our professional opinion, we strongly recommend remedial clean-up works commence as soon as possible."
The Victoria Police Authority has also issued a warning stating that nobody should enter the site due to safety reasons.
