Asbestos Not A Problem Following Fire

August 2nd, 2005

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has confirmed that there is no airborne asbestos contamination risk at the site of a massive fire at a gas distributor.

Following the fire in St. Louis, there were concerns that the air in the area could be contaminated with the deadly substance, but new tests have been performed and it has been verified that this is not the case.

Although officials have confirmed that there is now no need for any concerns about airborne asbestos contamination from the fire, it is also clear that the clean up at the site is going to be a big job. However, the confirmation that asbestos is not present is likely to be a relief for many people.

Asbestos is a substance that is known to cause a number of ill health problems through exposure, including mesothelioma, an asbestos related cancer.
