A site in Clearwater has been approved for asbestos removal work by the local county council. Aiken County Council has issued approval for the asbestos cleanup at the Seminole Mills site, located in Clearwater. According to the consent agenda for earlier this week the contract may be awarded to the NEO Corporation.
Two grants were awarded to Aiken County Council by the Environmental Protection Agency in May of this year according to reports, and the total amount of these two grants came to four hundred thousand dollars.
Fifty percent of these funds will be used on clearing up the asbestos at the Seminole Mills site, with the other half going towards carrying out assessments at the Clearwater Finishing site.
Asbestos is a substance that can cause a range of health related problems through exposure to its dust and fibers, and this includes a form of cancer known as mesothelioma, scarring of the lungs, and respiratory problems.
