Concerns About Asbestos Contamination In Sacramento

July 28th, 2005

A resident of a Sacramento suburb has raised concerns about asbestos contamination stemming from bulldozers that were working on land for the construction of new homes six years ago. Lance McMahan states that he saw clouds of construction dust, and realized that it probably contained naturally occurring asbestos. This spurred him to move out of the area with his family.

As the bulldozers worked in the field, McMahan claimed that he could see the dust drifting across the nearby baseball field. Only recently the authorities have confirmed that there was indeed naturally occurring asbestos in El Dorado Hills, and they are still trying to determine the risk to locals.

An EPA spokesman stated: "It's bad, we just don't know how bad." Most of the residents have decided to stay where they are for now, although there are some that have already decided to move on. One resident stated: "We're not concerned about it. We don't sit around and breathe asbestos dust. We could go out in the street and dig around in it and sniff it up, but we don't do that."
