A burglary in the UK has resulted in an asbestos scare, after the items that were stolen were found to be potentially lethal as a result of asbestos exposure. The contaminated material was stolen from a haulage firm in the UK.

Police and health authorities in the UK have now had to issue warnings with relation to the serious health risks associated with the stolen products, which could result in exposure to asbestos. Asbestos is a substance that can cause various serious health problems, including scarring of the lungs, respiratory problems, and a form of cancer known as mesothelioma.

The burglary took place earlier this week at the Sowerby Bridge hauliers. The equipment belonged to a firm that specializes in asbestos removals. The owner of the firm stated: "It is likely it is contaminated with asbestos dust and it is extremely hazardous for anybody handling it."
