A widow from the UK has been urged to seek asbestos compensation after her husband passed away as the result of an industrial disease following exposure to asbestos. Sheila Bowles was advised by a coroner that she should look into taking legal action after it was found that her husband had died from malignant mesothelioma, a deadly form of cancer directly linked to long-term or high-level exposure to asbestos dust and fibers.
The coroner confirmed that the man had died from asbestos related cancer at an inquest last week, and advised his widow to look at filing a lawsuit against his former employers. Sixty-four year-old Frank Bowles died from mesothelioma in December 2006. It was originally thought that he had lung cancer, but was later found to be suffering from asbestos related cancer.
The coroner told Mrs. Bowles: "The past twelve months of your husband's life must have been unbearable for your family and particularly for your husband. What always strikes me with cases of this nature is how quickly the illness strikes after having been dormant for twenty, thirty, or forty years."
