A law firm has filed a lawsuit on behalf of a woman that passed away as a result of exposure to asbestos dust and fibers from vehicle brakes, after inhaling asbestos dust from the clothes of her husband and children. The woman's husband and children regularly worked on family cars in the garage at their home.
The decedent was allegedly exposed to asbestos when cleaning and washing the clothes that her husband and children wore to work on the cars. The lawsuit has been filed in Middlesex County, and is expected to go to trial in the summer. It will be the asbestos based brakes that were used that will be at the center of the lawsuit.
The husband and children of the decedent worked on these vehicles between the 1960s and 1980s, and Bendix brakes were used in the vehicles. The woman was diagnosed with the asbestos related cancer, mesothelioma, in 2002 and passed away as a result of the cancer.
Asbestos was once commonly used in a variety of products, such as building materials, household items, and auto parts. It is now known that exposure to asbestos dust and fibers can cause various health problems, including deadly asbestos related cancer.
