The daughter of a woman that died from asbestos related cancer has filed a lawsuit against forty-four defendants in Madison County Circuit Court. The lawsuit was filed in mid-May by Elsie Eberhard, the daughter of the late Barbara Clarke.
The lawsuit alleges that Clarke was exposed to the deadly carcinogenic, asbestos, between 1961 and 1995, when she worked in various roles including engineering draftsman, production worker, and machinist. A number of companies have been named as defendants, including Bondex, Cooper Industries, Ford Motor Company, General Electric, General Motors, John Crane, and Kelly Moore Paint.
Mrs. Clarke, who was from Pennsylvania, was diagnosed with the deadly asbestos related cancer mesothelioma in January of 2005, and just a few months later, in May of the same year, she passed away as a result of the cancer.
According to the lawsuit the defendants chose to include asbestos in the products that they used despite suitable alternative being available, and they were aware of the danger of asbestos yet failed to warn or protect those working with the substance.
