The Troy University Hall, Dill Hall, has had its demolition delayed due to the presence of asbestos. The demolition of the residence hall was due to take place over the last couple of weeks, but because of the discovery of asbestos has had to be put on hold on a temporary basis until further notice. No firm date has been set to reschedule the demolition at this point.
Asbestos removal had already started at the building according to officials, but more asbestos was found between two layers of flooring, which is what has caused the additional delay. According to Project Manager, Jade Anderson, the asbestos is in every room, and it will take time to dispose of it. She stated: “We need to take the time to make sure the material is disposed of safely.”
A new thirteen million dollar educational facility is set to replace the old building when it is finally demolished. Although renovation for the halls of residence had been considered officials decided that demolition was the best course of action because of the state of the building. Anderson stated: “Just based on the structural issues, I'd have to say that renovation would not have been the most cost-effective.”
