The administrator of the estate of a woman that died from mesothelioma has filed a lawsuit claiming that the woman was exposed to asbestos through her father's belongings. The lawsuit has been filed through a Pittsburgh attorney and is against sixty-nine companies.
The lawsuit was filed in the Kanawha Circuit Court in April but the administrator of the estate, Karen Morris. The victim, who died from asbestosis and mesothelioma, was Sandra Ellen Phares. It is claimed that Phares contracted the asbestos related cancer after breathing in dust from her father's clothes and belongings when he came home from work after working with asbestos.
The lawsuit stated: "While residing in her home with her father, she was exposed to asbestos-containing dust on her father's clothing and on his person, which he carried home to his family from his various jobsites." Her father, Richard Phares, worked at Union Carbide in Institute and South Charleston and Marietta, Ohio.
The suit goes on to say that Sandra Phares breathed in asbestos dust and fibers through her father's clothing, as well as through riding in the car, and simply by living in the same house.
