According to officials asbestos has been found at a high school during renovations, and the associated school district is going out of its way to ensure that the problem is dealt with quickly and efficiently. The school that has been affected is the Highlands High School in Fort Thomas, and the Fort Thomas School District has stated that everything is being done to ensure that the asbestos is removed safely and quickly.
Officials from the school district have now brought in a specialist firm to deal with the asbestos, LVI Services, and they will be ensuring that the asbestos is safely removed from the school. Superintendent Larry Stinson stated: "Any building that age will probably have asbestos in it. We are aware of it and are going beyond the guidelines and regulations for removing it."
Although workers were not expecting to find asbestos, authorities state that the specialist company was called in as soon as the problem came to light. Asbestos is a substance that can cause cancer and a range of other health problems in those that are exposed to its airborne dust and fibers at high levels of over long periods.
Authorities also stated that plastic sheeting had been used to seal off the affected area to ensure others' safety. One official said: "We are doing everything even potentially necessary to ensure that there is absolutely no danger."
