Dumped Asbestos Waste Identified

April 21st, 2005

The dumping of toxic materials and waste has become a major issue in many areas of the country. There have been many instances where toxic waste, such as asbestos, has been dumped in all manner of places, creating the risk of contamination and health problems for local residents. Earlier this week over 100 bags filled with asbestos waste material were found dumped, and an investigation into the illegal dumping was initiated.

The massive number of bags was found dumped at a Greenfield lot at Garfield Avenue. This is a problem area that has already been identified as a common dumping ground. Officials state that so much rubbish has been dumped in that particular area lately that over fifty thousand dollars has already been spend on clearing the area in the last six months alone.

The investigation into the dumping of the latest batch of toxic waste involved investigators in protective gear going through the bags in order to find clues as to where the bags came from and who had dumped them. It seems that their hard work paid off as a perpetrator has been identified.

The deputy attorney general of the Environmental Crimes Bureau of the Attorney General's Office, Ed Bonanno, stated: "We have an address, which I can't give you at this point. Suffice it to say it's in North Jersey. We'll be following up on that."
