9/11 Shirt Tested For Asbestos Presence

April 20th, 2006

An analysis has been carried out on a shirt that was worn by a volunteer that worked at the Ground Zero site after the 9/11 terrorist attacks to check for signs of toxicity. The volunteer wore the shirt for two days when he volunteered to help at the site immediately following the attack on the World Trade Center twin towers.

After wearing the shirt at the site the volunteer, Yehuda Kaploun, packed the shirt away into a sealed bag and has kept it ever since. Recently the shirt was sent off for testing to the RJ Lee Group laboratories, and results from the testing allegedly revealed traces of chrysotile asbestos that was apparently over 90 times higher than the average level found in the country’s cities.

One lawyer describes the shirt as "astronomically toxic." The volunteer himself said that he was not really sure why he decided to seal the shirt away after wearing it at Ground Zero, and he stated: "But something told me that it was loaded with stuff - and it goes to show you how very wrong these people were whom we trusted."

He added: "I remember coming home, and you know what, I was going to give the shirt to the cleaners, and then somehow, for some reason, I didn't. But if my shirt and I can do something to help these people who were there for weeks and months on end - and if this is the kind of numbers needed that will help and support their cases - then that's the blessing."
