Recipients Of Asbestos Awards Announced

April 6th, 2006

The recipients of several awards to be presented at the 2nd annual Asbestos Awareness Day Conference have been announced by the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization. The awards will be presented to individuals that have dedicated themselves to activities relating to asbestos awareness, and the conference will take place at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City in April 2006.

The Tribute to Hope Award will go to Senator Harry Reid, who has provided valuable support to asbestos exposure victims. A patient and sufferer of the asbestos related cancer mesothelioma, the Honorable Chuck Strahl, P.C., M.P, will receive the Tribute for Inspiration Award for his show of strength in coping with the disease and diagnosis.

The final award, which is the Tribute for Unity Award, will be presented to a man that has worked to bring together and educate professionals and victims of asbestos exposure, James Fite from the White Lung Association. There is also a special Selikoff Lifetime Achievement Award, which will go to Dr. Yasunosuke Suzuki, who has been conducting many cancer research studies.

A spokesperson for the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization stated: "The honorees are truly inspirational human beings; their commitment, compassion and leadership have illuminated the darkness and brought hope to many whose lives have been so badly affected by these debilitating and fatal illnesses. Asbestos Awareness Day is a landmark step towards education, prevention and a cure. More than 30 million homes and buildings across the nation contain asbestos - these incurable and often deadly diseases are not going way."
