Home Developer To Provide Asbestos Warnings On New Homes

March 16th, 2005

Following an investigation into naturally occurring asbestos in El Dorado Hills last year, a new homes developer has confirmed that warnings will be provided on new homes with regards to the naturally occurring asbestos in the area. Christopherson Homes is due to open five model homes shortly, and a warning will be placed for any visitors in the office to see. In addition to this, warnings will also be posted in local papers.

Providing this warning is not regulation, and therefore many have said that the developer should be commended for the actions being taken. This naturally occurring asbestos is common in such areas. It poses a danger only when it becomes airborne. The notice, known as the Proposition 65 warning reads as follows:

NO 812 PUBLIC NOTICE PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN with respect to naturally-occurring asbestos (NOA) in The Promontory Village 4, El Dorado Hills, California also known as Montecito at The Promontory. WARNING: Chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm are contained in and around land development and excavation operations for housing subdivisions at Promontory Point in El Dorado County. The foregoing warning is provided pursuant to Proposition 65. This law requires the Governor of California to publish a list of chemicals known to the state to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity. This list is compiled in accordance with a procedure established by the Proposition and can be obtained from the California Environmental Protection Agency.
