A UK man has reportedly been awarded a six figure compensation claim after being exposed to the deadly carcinogenic asbestos by his former employer in the 1970s. The fifty-three year-old man from North Walbottle worked as a piping engineer for Carillion, Singapore. He claims that this is where he was exposed to asbestos dust and fibers.
In October 2005 Mr. Tiffin, the plaintiff, was diagnosed with mesothelioma. This is a form of cancer that is directly linked to exposure to asbesots dust and fibers, and can take twenty to forty years on average to manifest from the time of exposure. This cancer can affect the heart, lungs, or the abdominal region, and can reduce the lifespan of the sufferer significantly.
After seeking legal assistance from Irwin Mitchell solicitors, Mr. Tiffin has now been awarded a six figure sum. The man expressed releif as he had thought that he would have to sell his home in order to try and fund the medical treatment required for his illness. He is currently taking around forty tablets a day to maange the pain from his illness.
