A man has been charged with violation of the US Clean Air Act after being found guilty of dumping the potentially deadly carcinogenic, asbestos. The businessman from Philadelphia has been accused of dumping the deadly material in a parking lot in Camden.
Asbestos is a known carcinogenic and can result in a range of health problems including mesothelioma, an asbestos related cancer that stems from exposure to airborne asbestos dust and fibers. The 40 year-old, Randall Cone, could face a fine of around a quarter of a million dollars as well as a maximum of two years in prison if he is convicted of the crime.
According to reports Randall, owner of the company R. Cone Environmental Services Inc, filled a trailer with asbestos after carrying out renovation work at a building, and then proceeded to dump the material in the parking lot.
The asbestos was actually found at the parking lot in 2005, and according to authorities the owner of the lot then had to spend around eighteen thousand dollars to get the asbestos properly removed and the area cleaned up.
