A man that once used materials from former James Hardie company Amaca PTY Ltd has won $2.75 million after contracting the asbestos related cancer called mesothelioma. Having described the company as cowards that left him to die in the gutter, the man walked away with a $2.75 million compensation award.
Fifty-eight year-old Tim Lacone used asbestos sheeting from the buildings material company between around 1967 and 1974 according to reports.
The asbestos sheeting that he used exposed him to dust and fibers from the carcinogenic substance, and he subsequently contracted mesothelioma, an asbestos related cancer that shortens lifespan considerably.
The plaintiff stated: "James Hardie is a gutless, cowardly company that ran away from this country like a hit-and-run driver who ran away from maybe your loved one and left them dying a hideous death in the gutter."
