An organization held a press conference this week to discuss the presence of asbestos in everyday items. The conference is to raise awareness of the danger asbestos presents in every day life.
Washington DC hosted a press conference this week for the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization after results of independent testing found asbestos in every day household items. The conference was to show the continued danger of asbestos exposure, and to raise awareness that products could be introduced to a younger generation of victims. The products tested and found to contain high levels of asbestos include appliances, hardware and household goods as well as home and garden items. The conference was a platform to release these findings, citing specific items and manufacturers.
The danger of asbestos exposure continues, with more than 10,000 new victims expected in the next decade. Exposure from items in the report can lead to a younger group of victims, since the asbestos exposure can occur from early childhood. Asbestos related diseases, like mesothelioma and asbestosis, can take years to be diagnosed, and is usually deadly when found. Cases of mesothelioma have continued to increase in the US over the last few decades, and are expected to continue to do so.
