It has been announced that a federal court has approved a settlement figure in relation to a case where a sub-division was built over an asbestos dump. The Klamath Falls sub-division was built over an old asbestos dump, and when this information came to light the residents there were forced to move for their own health and safety.

The federal court has approved a settlement of nearly $11 million. The families had bought homes on the North Ridge Estates sub-division of Klamath Falls for between $200,000 and $700,000.

The approval of the settlement between the residents and the developers of the sub-division means that the residents can now recover a large percentage � around 85% � of the cost of having to leave their homes.

The developer, MBK Partnership, will have to pay the multi-million dollar settlement by way of compensation and legal costs. The land on which the sub-division was developed was originally barracks for the return of U.S. marines during the Second World War.
