A major asbestos law firm announced this week that two manufacturers reached a settlement with a mesothelioma victim. The man was a plasterer in California for more than 40 years.
A 69 year-old man in California is now $2 million richer this week after a court awarded him an asbestos settlement. The man was a plaster worker in California for more than 40 years, and was diagnosed with a deadly type of lung cancer called mesothelioma in 2006. The cancer was a result of breathing in asbestos fibers while worker with plaster produced by two companies, which were involved in the settlement. Though the settlement was awarded to the victim, it will most likely be his family that will utilize the funds, since mesothelioma victims rarely live a couple years after they have been diagnosed.
The law firm representing the victim and his family noted that the money will not give the man any physical comfort, as mesothelioma victims slowly suffocate as a result of asbestos fibers being lodged in the lungs. But the settlement will give him mental comfort in knowing that his family will be provided for after he passes away, perhaps decades sooner than he would have normally lived.
