A school district is using the holiday period to remove asbestos materials from some of its schools and buildings to ensure the future safety of employees and students. The Fayetteville School District buildings maintenance team will be overseeing works in relation to the removal of asbestos related materials at the Ramay Junior High School and the former Boys and Girls Club Building.
At Ramay Junior High School a number of panels were being removed during the holidays. Also, asbestos related floor tiling was being removed at the former Boys and Girls Club Building. The building is owned by the school district, and there are plans to turn it into a fitness center for school employees.
Environmental Enterprise Group was hired to carry out removals on behalf of the school district, and asbestos materials were removed by experts wearing protective clothing. A spokesperson stated that although the asbestos tiles were considered safe the building needed an upgrade anyway. He stated: “It’s just my philosophy that I don’t want it around children and staff.”
The work at the school was scheduled to be completed with all asbestos materials removed before the students returned to school after the holidays.
