Dr. Nicholas Vogelzang is a highly experienced medical oncologist practicing in the state of Nevada. He is currently serving as the Director of the Nevada Cancer Institute in Las Vegas, NV. The doctor’s clinical trial interests include mesothelioma and genitourinary malignancies. He conducts large national clinical trials to study prostate cancer, and is an innovator for new cancer therapies.
Previously, Dr. Vogelzang was also the Director of the University of Chicago Cancer Research Center. He was well-known as a medical oncologist while participating in the Mesothelioma Program at the University of Chicago Cancer Research Center.
Dr. Nicholas J. Vogelzang has a long list of distinguished contributions to the study of cancer, as an associate and leader of many medical associations, societies and professional organizations. Since receiving his M.D. degree in 1974 from the University of Illinois, he has been a continual contributor of medical knowledge and innovation, especially in the area of cancer.
With degree in hand, Dr. Vogelzang served his internship and residency at Chicago’s Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center. He then completed a fellowship in medical oncology at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Vogelzang then began serving as a faculty member at the University of Chicago; today he teaches at the University of Nevada Schools of Medicine.
Dr. Vogelzang has a special interest in the area of malignant mesothelioma. In 2006, he was elected to serve as chairman on the board of directors for the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation. He also is the editor of a leading clinical textbook, entitled Malignant Mesothelioma. He is considered to be an international expert regarding treatment of mesothelioma cancer.
His public service extends to many organizations, including being president of the Illinois Division of the American Cancer Society. He holds membership in many prestigious professional societies and has authored hundreds of articles in scientific publications, reviews for scientific articles and abstracts. Dr. Vogelzang is an accomplished reviewer and editor, and was the lead editor for the Comprehensive Textbook of Genitourinary Oncology, published in January of 2000. He is a sought-after public speaker, especially on the topic of mesothelioma and Hodgkin’s disease.
As the head of the Nevada Cancer Institute’s Genitourinary Cancer Program, Dr. Vogelzang continues to focus on research, clinical trials and treatment of those cancers.
