One surgeon who has devoted his career to the treatment of cancer is Dr. David M. Jablons. Dr. Jablons received his undergraduate degree from Yale College in 1979, and his medical degree from Albany Medical College of Union University, in 1984. He was a surgical resident at Tufts-New England Medical Center, in 1991. Several fellowships followed, beginning with a fellowship in surgical oncology with the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health. He then completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Tufts University, a lung transplantation fellowship at Boston's Brigham and Women's Hospital, and a fellowship in surgery at Cornell University Medical Center in Ithaca, New York.
Currently, Dr. Jablons is Chief of General Thoracic Surgery at University of California at San Francisco Medical Center; Program Leader of the Thoracic Oncology Program of the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center; and Director of the UCSF Thoracic Oncology Laboratory, where he performs research into molecular biology and genomics. His specialties include mesothelioma, lung cancer, thoracic cancer, emphysema, esophageal cancer, and heart and lung transplants. He has also specialized in thoracoscopy, mediastinal tumors, and tracheal surgery. Dr. Jablons is board-certified in thoracic surgery.
Dr. Jablons has written more than 125 professional papers, either alone or with a colleague, and is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Association for Cancer Research, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer.
He has been included on the Castle Connolly list of America's Top Doctors for Cancer for the years 2005 through 2007 and their list of America's Top Doctors for 2009. In addition to his work at UCSF Medical Centers, Dr. Jablons is also affiliated with Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City, CA.
