The Yale Cancer Center, or YCC, is a National Cancer Institute designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in southern New England, located in New Haven, CT. This cancer center is affiliated with the world-famous Yale University, and in fact, all of the YCC physicians are on staff at the Yale School of Medicine. YCC is consistently rated as one of the top hospitals by U.S. News and World Report. Additionally, the hospital which YCC is a part of, the Yale-New Haven Hospital, received an additional award by this magazine, earning a spot among the best 21 hospitals in the nation as part of the prestigious "Honor Roll" group.

In 2010, Yale-New Haven Hospital and Yale Cancer Center will be opening the new Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale. This will be a larger form of YCC, able to accommodate 112 inpatients at a time, with more room for outpatient rooms, improved diagnostic devices, and even a healing garden to assist in the therapeutic process. This new cancer center will also continue with the existing YCC on-site therapeutic groups, which even offer support groups catering to specific forms of cancer in the patient, such as lung or brain cancer. There are also additional support services available to families of the cancer victim.

Treatment at the Yale Cancer Center involves a multidisciplinary approach, whereby doctors from different fields confer in order to determine the most optimal course of treatment and recovery for patients. However, the main physician the patient is in contact with is a specialist in a specific form of cancer. This means that people afflicted with pleural mesothelioma, a type of lung cancer linked to workplace asbestos contact, would be put in touch and primarily work with a lung cancer specialist. These doctors also make clinical trials available to patients who qualify and who wish to undertake them, and there are several chemotherapy and radiation therapy trials available to people who may have mesothelioma. This in turn allows the latest scientific findings to be applied to cancer sufferers in the care of YCC.

Like any NCI-designated cancer center, YCC offers a wide array of diagnostic imaging and therapeutic resources, including chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and both invasive and laprascopic surgeries. However one of the things which may distinguish Yale Cancer Center from other treatment facilities, and make this a desirable place to receive treatment, is their array of options for post-treatment care. From the upcoming healing garden to the uniquely cancer site-oriented target groups, YCC seems intent on providing a high level of recuperative care. The Connecticut Challenge Survivorship Clinic allows a unique place for cancer survivors to help pursue healthy lives after a struggle with cancer. This clinic provides a multidisciplinary field of specialists who address non-cancer problems faced by cancer patients, including mental, social, and emotional issues. This is important since some treatment programs do not place this level of emphasis on leading a good life after cancer. Therapies offered by this offshoot of YCC include guided imagery, massage, genetic counseling, nutritional counseling, and health and fitness recommendations.
