Arthur T. Skarin, M.D. specializes in multimodal cancer treatments. Recently, he has focused his efforts on finding novel treatments for mesothelioma. Some of the treatments include anti-angiogenesis agents, new targeted chemotherapy agents, antisense oligonucleotide protocols, vaccines and other pertinent therapy options. He also specializes in thoracic cancer, cancerous lesions of the thorax, lung cancer, thymus tumors, mediastinum tumors, and pleural effusion. Dr. Skarin designs clinical trials for all stages and types of cancer. Prevention and screening are two of the major aspects of his research and work.
In 1961, he received his medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo. After receiving his medical degree, he received his post-graduate training in internal medicine. This training occurred at Millard Fillmore Teaching Hospital in Buffalo. After post-graduate training, Dr. Skarin served as a Clinical Director of the Hematology laboratory for 28 years at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Massachusetts. In 1975, he was appointed Medical Director of the Thoracic Oncology Program there, and has served in the position for 21 years.
In 1996, Dr. Skarin was presented with the Teacher of the Year award from the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. He also served as a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians. To date, he has written and published over 12 books, as well as scholarly articles in renowned medical journals. Many of Dr. Skarin’s publications can be found in the Journal for Clinical Oncology, as well as handbooks at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Dr. Skarin has over 20 years of experience in his field. His level of expertise not only comes from experience, but his ability to stay abreast of the latest advancements in the field. Additionally, Dr. Skarin is helping to pass on his experience on both the clinical and research sides of mesothelioma treatment, by teaching as an Associate Professor at the Harvard Medical School Department of Medicine.
